Agility & Sport Classes

Agility is a great way to build a shy dog’s confidence or to focus your exuberant dog’s boundless energy by giving them a job to perform! Flyball and Rally are also FUN sporting classes that we currently offer, which not only excite your pooch, but make for enjoyable bonding time.  Please use the LEFT NAVIGATION bar to view class details, dates and prices.

Beginner Agility

This six-week class is for students who are new to agility. Your dog must be at least 1 year of age, in good health and have had previous basic training (sit, down, come, stay commands). Your dog must be comfortable working around other dogs and people and also eager to work for delicious food, treats or toys.

In Beginner Agility, dogs will learn basic skills that build the foundation for safe and successful agility runs, including:

• Focus on the owner.
• Introduction to jumping.
• Introduction to agility obstacles.

Because the bond between you and your dog is the most important factor in a successful agility team, our Beginner Agility Class not only teaches you how to best communicate with your dog but through one-on-one instruction and fun exercises we can help you create a powerful foundation for a successful relationship with your dog both in and out of the agility ring.

Rally

A successful stepping stone from the AKC Canine Good Citizen® program to the world of obedience and agility, AKC Rally is a new dog sport that is taking the nation by storm!

Rally offers both dogs and handlers a fun and energizing experience. Teams move at their own pace in a manner very similar to rally-style auto racing. Rally was designed with the traditional pet owner in mind, but can still be very challenging for those who enjoy higher levels of competition.

A Rally course includes 10 to 20 stations, depending on the level. Scoring is less rigorous than traditional obedience competitions; communication and a sense of teamwork between handler and dog are encouraged, but a perfect heel position is not required. Rally’s main objective is to produce dogs who are well-behaved and reflect positively on the sport of Rally at all times and under all conditions – including at home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs.

“Conformation” is the official name for dog shows. While they may seem glamorous, the true purpose of Conformation Showing is to evaluate breeding stock.

A dog’s “Conformation,” or their overall appearance and structure, is an indication of their ability to produce quality, purebred puppies. Because the dogs are judged on their appearance, mixed-breed or spayed/neutered purebreds are ineligible to compete.

Many times a new exhibitor will get started in dog shows by finding a mentor who is usually the breeder from whom they acquired their puppy.

Many AKC clubs also offer “handling classes” to teach owners how to present their purebred dogs to judges at dog shows.

Policy on Missing AGILITY classes.

While we understand that things do happen and students may need to miss a class or two during a given session, we do not offer make-up classes for agility. Due to the setup involved and the fluidity of agility training—students are always progressing in their skills no matter their level of experience—it is not possible to offer a class that would make up for what could have been learned during any single missed class. However, we do offer private sessions at the rate of $55 for a 30 minute session and $105 for a 60 minute session.
