Advanced Level II – Community Canine – AKC Canine Good Citizen Advanced (CGCA)

At Urban Pooch Training and Fitness Center, we’re very excited to offer the NEW AKC Community Canine℠ Training Class – which focuses on the new advanced level of the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Program. Dogs who pass the AKC Community Canine test earn the official AKC Community Canine title that is designated by the letters “CGCA” (Advanced CGC) on the dog’s title record.

IMPORTANT – in order to participate and test for CGCA, Dogs must already have a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test on record with AKC.

The AKC Community Canine test is done in real situations including at shows, classes, and in the community.  AKC Approved CGC Evaluators administer the AKC Community Canine test.
This includes 6 weeks of class + the exam on the 7th week.

Advanced Therapy Dog International (TDI) certification

Our Therapy Dog International (TDI) course – taught by our Senior Trainer, Mary Pat Jones – is the only TDI class taught in the downtown Chicago area, and our results have been amazing. The cost of this class includes training to prepare you for the TDI test, and the actual cost of the test, which is administered on the last night of class by a Certified TDI Evaluator. You and your pooch will really enjoy this class, and (once certified) you can both go to local hospitals and nursing homes to spread the joy and unconditional love that dogs give so freely!

Therapy Dogs International (TDI®) is a volunteer organization dedicated to regulating, testing, and registering therapy dogs and their volunteer handlers for the purpose of visiting nursing homes, hospitals, other institutions, and wherever else therapy dogs are needed.

To belong to Therapy Dogs International (TDI®), dogs must be tested and evaluated by a Certified TDI Evaluator. To be eligible, a dog must be at least one (1) year of age and have a sound temperament. Each dog must pass a TDI Temperament Evaluation for suitability to become a Therapy dog. The test also includes evaluation of the dog’s behavior around people with the use of some types of service equipment (wheelchairs, crutches, etc).

Cost: $285 (includes cost of test)

Policy on Missing Classes During Group Training Classes:

While we understand that things do happen, the price for group classes takes into account the trainer working with everyone during the group class. If you need to miss a class, you can schedule a 20 minute make-up class at Urban Pooch for a cost of $30/make-up session. This entire fee goes directly to the trainer for their time. Thanks for understanding!
